9/11/01 – I’m downstairs in our home … The Today Show anchors – Couric and Lauer – all of a sudden have a ‘deer in the headlights’ look and begin to say ..’we’re confirming a story that a plane has crashed into 1 of the 2 World Trade Center towers!’  I run upstairs to tell my wife to come to the TV … and we too got the ‘deer in the headlights’ look as the horrendous story began to unfold. I decided to stay home the entire day and was glued to the TV watching with sadness an historic chapter in our country’s life.  It was like I couldn’t see or feel anything else but the pain and suffering that was being so publicly displayed that day and how I hurt for them all.

As we visited New York City about 6 weeks ago, we walked around those city blocks and attempted to relive the moments of those planes flying into those buildings.  I felt chills over how it could have ever happened.

My prayers today are for the many families and friends of loved ones who are gone and I am flooded with the greatest of gratefulness to those that work hard everyday to prevent – as best as they can – terror events from happening again.

New York City – you taught us a lot about resilience and you continue to. I also now have a whole new admiration and respect for the firefighters and law officers of our country after seeing a model of true courage displayed like I had never seen before during that event.

It’s just a more serious Saturday than many and after all of what we remember, that is OK!
