Last evening, my wife and I had an extraordinary treat!
When we first heard that Idina Menzel would be in Nashville in concert with the fabulous Nashville Symphony Orchestra, we purchased our tickets that day and are so glad we did! Her concert last night was a SOLD OUT event and after being there, we could see why. You probably would have noticed us in the Schermerhorn Laura Turner Concert Hall. We were the two with our mouths opened and jaws dropping. Menzel was simply incredible. I told my wife as we sadly walked away from a concert that one would hope would have lasted much longer, that this 35’ish lady has a wonderful chance to compete and in many ways, unseat the long and talented history of Barbra Streisand. Menzel easily has a better range (8 octaves), more personable banter and an ease of presentation with her music that I haven’t seen in a long time. This has to rank in my Top 3 all time best concerts – and right now, I honestly can’t remember what the other two are!
The Tennessean released their review of the concert this afternoon and it is spot on – correct! If you’re interested, take a peek!
There’s a lot of music in this town and in surrounding areas in the next few days. Many of the artists are incredibly gifted. A few I would like to see (Bruce Hornsby and Buffalo Springfield at Bonnaroo to name a couple – can’t take the extreme hot weather nor the crowd – oh that crowd! :), but none will be more polished and entertaining than Ms. Menzel.
What a wonderful gift she has – a voice that is truly an instrument!
