Have you heard about this thing? On the roads of Southern California is a car Google has developed that drives itself! By using a complicated configuration of lasers and other sensitive equipment, reportedly, Google has logged more than 140,000 with these prototypes without incident. But last week, they had their first accident – not a bad one but reportedly, 5 cars ended up being involved in the fender-bender. Here are details:
Google’s first self-driving car crashes!
So how will we all adjust to self-driven vehicles years from now when the prototype becomes a car at your local Toyota dealership. And of course I have to ask:
- Who is the insured?
- Who is listed as the driver?
- How do you insure a vehicle where the owner of the car is the passenger in his personally own self-driving vehicle?
I can hear it now:
Driver of other vehicle that was hit: “911 – I have an accident to report!”
911 operator: “Can you give me details of the incident as I report it to the police department?”
Driver: “Sure, I was driving along and I was hit from behind by a car that had no driver!”
911 operator: “Uh huh … sure!”
That could be an issue – don’t you think!?
